RORO and snapir (Finland) – Fractures (single/future album track)

If experimental electronic music is your bag get your teeth into this one.

In fact, talking of teeth I could have mistaken the duo’s name, RORO and snapir, for a couple of XL Bullies, and the first few seconds of the track, ‘Fractures’, could justify that as it sounds like they’ve broken out of their kennel and are on the rampage.

“Pushing the boundaries of electronic music and crafting immersive soundscapes that evoke a range of emotions” are their raisons d’être and this single will also be a track on the album ‘Colors Left’, to be released on 17th January 2025 via Booa Music Collective. (The press release says 2024 but that must be a typo – we won’t be going back in time).

On the contrary there is very much a futuristic sound here.

Again, the press release refers to “a mind-bending electronic journey” and it does tax the senses for sure.

I have to lay my cards on the table. I’m not an expert by any means in this advanced form of electronic wizardly and forming a coherent appreciation of it is difficult.

There’s a beat that sounds like an electronic Fred Astaire tap dancing down Main Street, Anywhere, USA; a noise that could be the machine made to transport Jodie Foster in ‘Contact’; a central theme that is made for an epic confrontation in Battlestar Galactica; while various melodies collide along the way like galaxies into a Big Bang of sound.

The trick is bringing all this together into a cohesive whole.

And they do just that.
