Sex, drugs and rock n’ roll. Hm, yes. I remember that. Vaguely. It’s an age thing you know. At least one of them must have taken its toll on me.

Not for Mia Dae (Mia Dalager) it isn’t. No sign of ‘Amnesia’ in her. This young lady – who is still at school! – (well, at the Danish Songwriting Academy) genuinely rocks as we discovered with her debut single ‘Break you first’ and the follow up, ‘My next mistake’.

Commenting on the latter we said, “This lady will make waves in the rock music business…and I can’t see her making many mistakes.”

It’s nice to be proven right. At least thus far.

‘Amnesia’, like the others, has a story behind it. In short that “behind the illusion of euphoria and in the shadows of oblivion you’ll often find the pain that she wishes to forget.”

Some of the best musos in the business made their best music in that condition and the likes of Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse both spring to mind; but both are members of the 27 Club.

I suspect that Mia still has a few years to go before she reaches that defining age and if she has been exposed to those sorts of problems and has been able to overcome them, then more power to her elbow, especially while she can write songs like these. It can be an unforgiving business after all.

Visually she is the female rock goddess personified with the rings, tattoos and the looks. In her video shots she often appears a little dishevelled after a night on the tiles, or with a glass in her hand. She knows how to paint a picture that will resonate with listeners.

Sonically, she has quickly learned how the rapid introduction of the power chorus with power chords and its repetition pays dividends and how the ability to surprise, for example by dropping in an acoustic guitar/piano bridge-cum-outro can have the same result.

And how selecting a simple title and theme that could have belonged to Nirvana won’t do you any harm either.

As I said earlier, no mistakes.

It won’t be long before she’s the one doing the teaching.

And if I was pressed on artists I’d like to see performing here in the UK this year she’d be right up at the top.
