As we reintroduce the Pot Pourri section, a couple of contrasting pieces of electronica for you tonight from Sweden in the form of Anna-My and Meltone.
Anna-My – Memoria (single)
Anna-My is making her debut with the single ‘Memoria’, after spending a decade as a DJ in Stockholm, New York and London, all of which have influenced her to a degree, as have stints as a club organiser and music journalist.
In particular, she says that ‘Memoria’ transfers her “to the vibrant streets of Brixton, London, where I somehow became an adult. The crowds of people, each on their own mission, a blend of cultures from everywhere, the scent of spices in the air, vendors calling out and drinks pouring — it’s all pure energy, colour, and life moving at full speed.”
To be honest, if there’s anywhere that would send me round the bend it is probably Brixton even though I’ve never been there despite having lived in several different parts of London.
From what I’ve seen of it life is lived at such a pace there that “stop the world I want to get off” would be a perfectly reasonable request. It’s less of a melting pot and more of a furnace.
And so with the song which is to the background of a slightly tachycardic thumping heartbeat of the sort that most inhabitants of SW9 probably suffer from.

A cacophony of overlapping and juxtaposed synthesised melodies and beats punctuated by a guy shouting “One” every eight seconds and 16th beat, the image it conjured up in my mind, weirdly, was of those manic get fit sessions hosted by the ‘Green Goddess’ Diana Moran on the BBC’s breakfast television programme in the UK in the 1980s.
Diana is in the house.
It’s inarguably one to dance to and if you can’t do that at least to work out to.
I do know of the Gothic Swedish artist Memoria by the way, we’ve reviewed her a few times. I’m not quite sure what she would make of it. Perhaps she could do a cover some time and Anna-My could reciprocate?
‘Memoria’ was released by Genesis Records on March 28th, with more releases set to follow this spring.

Meltone (and deneb) – Find a way home (single)
If ‘Memoria’ is for dancing, then Meltone’s ‘Find a way home’ is for quiet contemplation.
Like Anna-My, he is well established already with a huge following on Spotify. His work is more ambient, and designed, in his own words as “music to escape reality.”
Better than sitting in an airport departure lounge looking at an unmoving departure board, I’m sure.

For this song he’s combined, as he has previously, with the Italian producer, deneb. That’s a great name because as I’m sure you know Deneb, the main star in the constellation of Cygnus, is one of the brightest stars in the firmament.
And that’s where this song places us, metaphorically speaking, up in the heavens trying to find our way home from the furthest reaches of the galaxy.
Previous songs have been called ‘Meet you in the clouds’ and ‘Leave my pain behind’, and this one could be read as the final conclusion of a trilogy.
Perfect for one of those soundtracks on aircraft to lull you to sleep on your red-eye or for a hypnotherapy session, ‘Find a way home’ could placate a rabid bull being teased by a red flag the size of Old Trafford.
Again, and as weirdly as before I couldn’t get an image out of my mind – this time that of Robert Robot, the tin can auto pilot of children’s sci-fi TV animation Fireball XL5 who used to intone “on our way home” every time the spaceship was. He would have slipped ‘Find a way home’ into the cassette player and Planet Earth would have heaved into view in a flash.
We have no social links for Meltone or deneb yet. They may be added later.
