Sviir paid us a visit back in January with a single and track that was a precursor to a February EP.
They came across to me as a unique mixture of hard and soft rock, grunge and prog.
Now they are back with another single, and one with an unusual topic which at the same time will probably strike a chord with many people, namely that weird, uncomfortable feeling you might get when being over-enthusiastically addressed by first name by people you don’t know.
Yep, I always reckon they are trying to sell me something and it’s a particularly common practice in America, where it often goes hand in hand with such platitudes as “have a nice day”. As if they care whether or not you do.
The song then goes on to consider other similar inconsistencies.
Forget the soft rock and prog this time around. ‘Natta’ (‘Night’) is a hard-hitting, below the belt, bass-heavy, full- on rocker from the off, one which probably would wake the dead, never mind those just trying to get a good natta’s sleep before recommencing the daily toil on the early shift at the factory.
It’s so loud you wouldn’t know if you were being politely addressed by your name or insulted to your face.
Somehow they managed to find the time for both a guitar break and a bass one, too.
By the time the double kick bass drum comes in they’ve raised the tempo to one of a Night Fever, the atmosphere is closing in and there’s no going back.
The single is the second in connection with their third album, which is planned during the second quarter of 2025, and was released digitally on Friday, November 29th.
Sviir will make its live debut at MIR in Oslo on Saturday, December 7th.
